About The Position

The Surgical Technology Apprenticeship Program Coordinator (RN) is a professional Registered Nurse with in-depth scientific knowledge, technical expertise, skill and competency that serves as a business partner and resource in the patient care setting and supports clinical development and ongoing training initiatives. This position administers the Surgical Technology Apprenticeship Program, including recruitment and selection of candidates, development and delivery of program instruction, scheduling of clinical experiences, collaboration with surgical services to ensure student success, evaluation of students and evaluation of the program, and adherence to the requirements of federal apprenticeship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing (BSN) Required
  • 5 years Direct care experience in a surgical/procedural setting. Required
  • 2 years Registered Nurse experience Required
  • 1 year Surgical Technologist or specimen processing experience Required
  • Experience precepting or mentoring clinical staff Required
  • Registered Nurse - KSBN Required
  • Basic Life Support - BLS Required

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree Preferred
  • Experience developing or delivering training Preferred
  • Experience with EPIC Computer system Preferred
  • Certified Nurse Educator - NLN - Magnet Preferred
  • Certified Nurse Operating Room - C&CI - Magnet Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develops, teaches, and evaluates courses within the Surgical Technology Apprenticeship Program, including didactic, skills lab, and clinical experiences.
  • Ensures all course content supports eligibility for accreditation.
  • Manages instructor resources, equipment, and inventory for the Surgical Technology Apprenticeship Program.
  • Monitors student progress throughout the program, including class hours, clinicals hours and cases, and exam scores.
  • Collaborates with Surgical Services to provide clinical experience to students and evaluate student performance.
  • Advertises, recruits, screens, interviews, and selects candidates for the program.
  • Coordinates student transition from the program to the Surgical Services department.
  • Collaborates with the Apprenticeship intermediary to ensure all requirements of the apprenticeship program are met.
  • Provides documentation and information to apply for and carry out grants.
  • Organizes advertisement, recruitment, and retention for the Surgical Tech program.
  • Works collaboratively with leadership and subject matter experts to understand desired performance, assess learning needs, and develop appropriate training solutions.
  • Participates in orientation and ongoing educational needs as a presenter and content designer.
  • Incorporates regulatory accreditation requirements into improvement projects.
  • Manages multiple projects concurrently, maintaining details and meeting deadlines.
  • Stays involved in identifying process and staff efficiencies within the patient care setting.
  • Takes action to stay abreast of current and evolving learning trends, instructional methods/techniques and emerging technologies.
  • Maintains fiscal responsibility for assigned educational activities.
  • Serves as a mentor to clinical staff, and identify growth opportunities and educational needs for practicing clinical staff.
  • Maintains current knowledge of trends in area of expertise.
  • Complies with all policies, standards, mandatory training and requirements of Stormont Vail Health.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
