Performs duties in the scrub role as assigned, including preparing the sterile field, managing specimens, counts, and instruments, and maintaining a safe work environment. Responsible for the preparation of the surgical field and supplies/instruments, verifying availability and readiness per physician preference card, and assisting with opening supplies and instruments. May also function as a Sterile Processing Technician as needed. The position requires good communication skills, the ability to perform scrub duties independently, strong organizational skills, and knowledge of standard OR procedures, terminology, safety practices, and sterile techniques. A CPR certification is required. The role involves potential exposure to hazardous materials and life-threatening diseases, and the ability to recognize the needs of specific age groups of patients. Physical requirements include the ability to perform heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds occasionally, 25-50 pounds frequently, or 10-20 pounds constantly), and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with time constraints. For direct patient care, the lifting requirement is up to 35 pounds without assistance, with patient handling equipment expected for heavier lifts or when the patient cannot assist.
