About The Position

Summit Orthopedics is hiring a Casual Surgical Technologist to serve as an integral member of the surgical team. The role applies knowledge of sterile and aseptic technique, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and technology to facilitate physicians’ invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. The position supports five surgery centers in Woodbury, Eagan, Vadnais Heights, Plymouth, and Minnetonka. The employee will have a designated home base and float to other locations as needed. This is a flexible casual role in which shifts may be picked up based on availability and department needs; there is no set or guaranteed schedule. The hiring range is $32.60 to $40.75 per hour, with possible additional compensation through bonuses, differentials, and/or deferred compensation.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate knowledge and practice of sterile techniques in the surgical suite.
Prepare the operating room and sterile field/table for planned procedures.
Follow standard procedures and protocols when preparing the environment for surgery.
Anticipate the surgical team’s needs and provide appropriate instruments when needed.
Confine or contain contaminated instruments and equipment.
Participate in processes to positively identify the correct patient, planned procedure, and surgical site.
Help provide patients with the best possible surgical experience.
Verify that correct implants are present before a procedure, as needed.
Segregate hazardous waste and dispose of it correctly.
Assist with reprocessing surgical instruments if qualified.
Clean the operating room according to facility requirements.
Keep physician preference cards up to date.
Complete unusual occurrence reports accurately and promptly when necessary.
Participate in evaluating new supplies, equipment, and instruments.
Understand and perform the CST role in emergency situations.
