About The Position

The Surgical Technologist II is responsible for maintaining and preparing the surgical suite, intraoperative handling of instruments, maintenance of the sterile field, and evaluation of changing conditions during surgical procedures, making appropriate responses as needed. This role also involves maintaining knowledge of surgical procedures and protocols and may serve as a preceptor. Key functions include providing sterile instruments and supplies, performing surgical sponge, needle, and instrument counts, creating and maintaining a sterile and safe environment, preparing case tables with necessary equipment, sterile supplies, instruments, and medications/solutions, assisting in patient positioning, working proactively with physicians for preference card changes, suggesting instrument set changes, and actively engaging in case costing by discussing product usage with surgeons, making cost-saving suggestions, and advising on waste minimization.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent
  • Completion of an accredited School of Surgical Technology or equivalent training program (military, etc.)
  • 1 year of relevant experience
  • Minimum of 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience (Clinical rotations do count as experience)

Nice To Haves

  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days required Or CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 90 Days required

Responsibilities

  • Provides sterile instruments and supplies during the surgical procedure.
  • Performs surgical sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
  • Creates and maintains a sterile and safe environment.
  • Prepares case tables with necessary equipment, sterile supplies, instruments, and medications/solutions for each surgical case.
  • Assists in positioning patients for surgical procedures and maintains a protective position throughout the case.
  • Works proactively with physicians to submit preference card changes to align specialties.
  • Suggests instrument set changes to EMI and works with SPD identifying instruments sets that need to be worked on.
  • Actively engages in case costing by talking with surgeons regarding product usage, connects with EMIs to make cost saving suggestions, assesses product usage and advises on waste minimization and elimination.
  • May act as a preceptor to other clinical team members as directed.
