About The Position

Banner Surgery Center – Thunderbird, managed by Atlas Healthcare Partners, is located on the Banner Thunderbird Medical Center Campus. This Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) is equipped with 7 operating rooms, 8 Preop bays, and 18 PACU Bays, and is adaptable to all specialties. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • BLS required.
  • Where applicable, must be registered with State Regulatory Agency.
  • Requires manual dexterity and the ability to maintain professional decorum in highly stressful emergent situations.
  • Requires the ability to be conscientious, organized, and orderly.
  • Requires the ability to respond quickly to the needs of the surgeon and patient.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from a certified school of surgical technology.
  • 2 years of operating room experience.
  • In specific states (Texas, Connecticut, Idaho, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia), a Surgical Technician must meet one of the following criteria: (1) successfully completed an accredited educational program for surgical technologists and holds and maintains active certification from NBSTSA, NCCT, or another approved program; (2) completed an appropriate training program in the US Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or US Public Health Service; (3) was employed to practice surgical technology before September 1, 2009; or (4) is in service with the federal government performing related duties. Credentials must remain active and in good standing prior to performing independent scrub duties where certification applies.

Responsibilities

  • Selects and places surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgery.
  • Scrubs and provides instruments, sutures, and other sterile supplies during surgical procedures.
  • Prepares for surgical procedures by pulling appropriate instruments and supplies and ensuring their working order.
  • Reviews case carts for correct instruments and supplies and plans ahead for upcoming surgical case needs.
  • Anticipates the surgeon's needs by passing instruments, retracting tissue, and operating equipment during surgery.
  • Demonstrates principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout procedures.
  • Disposes of sharps and trash, and places used supplies into case carts for processing.
  • Participates in counting sharps, instruments, and sponges.
  • Prepares instruments for cleaning following each case.
  • Ensures accuracy of surgeon preference cards and pick lists.
  • Assists with OR turnover between cases.
  • Participates in stocking, replenishing supplies, and cleaning operating rooms.
  • May provide business support to the department, including assigned administrative tasks.
  • Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and professional standards.
  • Provides excellent service experiences by consistently demonstrating core and leader behaviors.
