About The Position

Wilson Health is hiring a full-time Surgical Technologist for its location in Sidney, Ohio. The role works 40 hours weekly or 80 hours bi-weekly on first shift, with an on-call rotation, and reports to the Director of Surgery. The Surgical Technologist cares for patients in the Operating Room and Endoscopy under the direction of a Registered Nurse and the supervision of medical staff. The role facilitates safe and effective invasive procedures by maintaining a safe operating-room environment, ensuring equipment functions properly, and helping conduct procedures under conditions that maximize patient safety. Wilson Health’s Surgical Services Department performs more than 4,000 inpatient and outpatient surgeries and other procedures annually across specialties including gynecology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, general surgery, ear, nose and throat surgery, urology, podiatry, plastic surgery, endoscopy, and interventional radiology. Requirements

Graduation from an accredited school of Surgical Technology.
BLS.

Nice To Haves

Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assistants (NBSTSA).
Membership in the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST).

Responsibilities

Prepare operating rooms with the instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment required for each procedure.
Handle instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgical procedures, anticipating the surgeon’s needs.
Maintain the sterile field and follow policies and procedures for sterilizing instruments and supplies.
Function as the scrub person: check required supplies and equipment; scrub, gown, and glove; and set up the sterile table with needed instruments, supplies, equipment, medications, and solutions.
Perform counts with the circulator at required points, understand the legal responsibility for accurate sponge counts, and verbalize the procedure for an incorrect count.
Gown and glove the surgeon and assistant, help drape the sterile field, and pass instruments to the surgeon.
Handle surgical specimens properly and prepare sterile dressings.
Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization and assist with terminal cleaning of the operating room and preparation for the next patient.
Obtain and open appropriate sterile and unsterile supplies and anticipate additional supplies needed during procedures.
Actively participate in the surgical Time Out.
Assist with patient transfers as needed and provide verbal and tactile reassurance while attending to patient comfort and safety.
Secure the dressing after the incision is closed.
When acting as second scrub, hold retractors or instruments as directed, sponge or suction the surgical site, and cut suture material as directed.
