This position assists in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments prior, during, and after surgical procedures. The Surgical Technologist cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization. They assist the Registered Nurse circulator in patient preparation, assembly of supplies, instruments, and equipment, and proper disposition of all specimens. This role is assigned to heightened specialized procedures including neurosurgery and spine, cardiothoracic, vascular, complex orthopedics, and robotics. The Surgical Technologist performs duties according to department policy and procedure, monitors surgical supplies and instrumentation for sterility, and documents sterilization activities. They attend in-services and staff meetings, participate in the Performance Improvement Process, and pursue educational opportunities to enhance competency. Additionally, this role assists in the development of policies and procedures, serves as a preceptor and clinical resource, and assumes responsibility for unit clinical projects.
