Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
  • BLS American Heart E-Card (BLS AHA ECARD) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART)
  • BLS American Heart E-Card (BLS AHA ECARD) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART)
  • BLS Cert American Heart_non ecard (BLS AHA) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART)
  • BLS Certification Grace (BLS GRACE) - Employee Grace Period for Essential Credential (GRACE)
  • BLS Cert Red Cross (BLS RC) - Red Cross (RED CROSS)
  • Requires critical thinking skills, effective communications skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • No prior work experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Surgical Technologist certification (CST or TS-C) is preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program within the last 12 months preferred.
  • Less than 6 months of surgical technologist work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned which may include, but not limited to, patient transportation and assisting in the Sterile Processing Department.
  • Handles turnover of operating room in a timely manner to include tearing down case, and disposing of sharp and contaminated items in accordance with policy.
  • Helps prepare, care for, and dispose of specimens taken for laboratory analysis (under the supervision of RN) and helps apply dressings.
  • Applies basic knowledge in surgical procedures.
  • Assists in pre-operative procedures such as assembly, selection of surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment and preparing for next cases.
  • Applies basic knowledge to reading preference cards to assist with surgical case preparation.
  • Applies basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology and microbiology.
  • Establishes and maintains a sterile field for use during a surgical procedure.
  • Assists with gowning, gloving and draping.
  • Passes instruments, and performs counts according to hospital policy.
