Surgical Technologists play a vital role in the operating room by supporting surgeons and Registered Nurses throughout surgical procedures while helping maintain a safe and sterile environment for patients. In this role, you will assist with a variety of responsibilities, including preparing supplies and equipment, setting up sterile tables, performing surgical counts, draping the sterile field, passing instruments during procedures, preparing sterile dressings and supporting the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced operative setting while continuously building your clinical and technical skills. As an essential member of the surgical team, your attention to detail, teamwork and commitment to patient care contribute directly to successful surgical outcomes every day.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program, accredited through Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) OR Completion of military surgical technology program will meet the educational requirements of an accredited Surgical Technology Program
  • Certification of: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) OR Certified Tech in Surgery (TS-C) through the National Center for Competency Training (NCCT)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

Responsibilities

  • Perform scrub functions and assist in circulating functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Set up the sterile table and ensure appropriate supplies, drugs and equipment are available.
  • Assists RN in counting all sponges, instruments, etc. at appropriate times during surgery.
  • Assist in gowning and gloving surgical team members and draping patients.
  • Ensure aseptic condition is maintained by the scrubbed surgical team through the procedure.
  • Participate in the intraoperative “timeout.”
  • Collect, identify and label specimens removed during surgical procedures and gives specimens to circulator for disposition.
