Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Graduate from a Surgical Technology program accredited by the committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation or another avenue of entry.
- Certified Surgical Technologist Certification required as evidenced by NBSTA OR a graduate from a Surgical Technology program with a written contract agreement of passing the Certification test within six months of hire OR 20 (twenty) years of experience as a validated OR Tech/Surgical Technologist required.
- CPR required.
Responsibilities
- Manual dexterity to handle multitude of OR instruments.
- Ability to obtain and interpret pertinent information in terms of the patients’ needs that are age appropriate.
- Ability to select proper instrumentation/supplies appropriate for age group of patient served.
- Works in surgical suite under aseptic conditions and cool temperatures.
- Exposure to hazards found in surgical areas.
- Requires call duty and ability to work flexible schedule.
- Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires standing for extensive periods of time.
- Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Requires working under stressful conditions with ability to adapt to rapid turnover of patient census.
