About The Position

Thompson Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist or LPN to join their team in the Finger Lakes region. This role directly assists the Surgeon and First Assistant within the sterile operative field, ensuring a sterile environment and readily available instruments and supplies. The position requires skill in sterile technique, surgical instruments, and procedures, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with the surgical team and maintain confidentiality. The role also involves preparing for cases, actively participating as a member of the surgical team, clearing the Operating Room efficiently, and providing quality care based on current nursing research and quality improvement monitoring.

Requirements

  • National Surgical Technology certification or credentialed/grandfathered by NYS per 1/21/15 DOH regulation (2824) OR NYS LPN license required.
  • BLS Certification required.
  • Must orient on days M-F 7am-3:30pm for the first several months, regardless of shift hired for.
  • On-call requirements required based on unit needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a surgical scrub tech strongly preferred
  • Cannot hire an LPN without surgical OR exp.

Responsibilities

  • Directly assist, within the sterile operative field, the Surgeon & First Assistant during surgery
  • Assure that a sterile environment is maintained
  • Assure all necessary surgical instruments/supplies are readily available to the surgeons
  • Develop & maintain collaborative working relationships with members of the surgical team
  • Actively guard confidentiality of sensitive info.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient
  • Assure a safe and efficient environment is provided for the surgical patient by preparing for each assigned case
  • Be an active member of the surgical team
  • Assure overall efficiency of department by effectively clearing Operating Room following the case
  • Assure an optimal perioperative environment to meet the needs of the patient
  • Provide appropriate and quality care based on the results of current nursing research and quality improvement monitoring results.
