About The Position

Baptist Health Lexington’s Surgical Services Department includes the Pre-Op Department, 20 operating rooms and scheduling business-office staff, a Postoperative Care Unit, an Endoscopy Department with dedicated pre- and post-op areas, and a Sterile Processing Department. The Surgical Technologist II-OR supports surgical procedures by preparing and maintaining the sterile field, instruments, supplies, and equipment; anticipating the surgeon’s needs; and helping prepare the room for scheduled and subsequent cases. The position is full-time, second shift, working four 10-hour shifts, with rotating on-call coverage on weekends, weeknights, and holidays. A $15,000 sign-on bonus is available for qualified individuals.

Requirements

Technical diploma or associate degree.
Completion of a Surgical Technology program.
National certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; applicants who are not already certified must obtain it within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

Perform draping and manage instrumentation, sutures, and equipment.
Aseptically set up and keep the Mayo stand and back table organized throughout procedures.
Correctly count and account for all required items before, during, and after procedures.
Anticipate the surgeon’s needs.
Check instruments, equipment, and supplies for accountability before use in a procedure.
Know the specific uses of equipment and supplies used for surgical procedures; seek information and support for knowledge gaps before use.
Plan, prepare, and function in emergency situations.
Have the operating room ready before the scheduled case time.
Help minimize turnover by preparing for the next case and obtaining instruments, equipment, and other necessary supplies.
Be in the operating room when the patient is brought in.
Provide rotating on-call coverage on weekends, weeknights, and holidays.
