Under the direction of Staff Nurses, assists with surgical procedures, the provision of therapeutic, preventive and emergency patient care duties. Prepares, operates and maintains routine and complex equipment, instruments, supplies and implants. The Medical Center North Liberty OR is seeking a full-time Surgical Technologist II. This role involves preparing the surgical area, anticipating the needs of the surgical team, and serving as a primary preceptor for students, interns, or new staff. The position requires applying knowledge of emergency situations and surgical procedures, understanding and maintaining aseptic technique, and providing proper care and handling of surgical equipment, instruments, supplies, and implants. The technologist will also be competent in delegated technical functions, facilitate patient care based on patient condition and age, and collaborate with peers. Responsibilities include maintaining the sterile field, reporting incidents, revising care plans, organizing instrument trays and supplies, and displaying critical thinking skills to anticipate patient and surgeon needs. Documentation according to department standards, performing computer functions, and participating in unit staff meetings and initiatives are also key aspects of the role. Additionally, the technologist will communicate with surgeons regarding case needs and organize specialty carts and information.
