About The Position

Facilitates the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures. This role involves 3 - 12 hour shifts, from 6:45p - 7:15am. Labor & Delivery experience is preferred. The Surgical Technologist II is responsible for monitoring and accounting for instruments, sponges, and supplies, assisting nursing staff in direct patient care, precepting and mentoring new staff, handling and processing surgical specimens, preparing the operating room, anticipating the needs of the surgical team, collaborating with sterile processing, contributing to a safe environment, and verifying the proper functioning of surgical instruments and equipment.

Requirements

  • Accredited Program: Surgical Technologist (Required)
  • BLS American Heart E-Card (BLS AHA ECARD) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART), BLS American Heart RQI E-Card (BLS AHA-RQI ECARD) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART), BLS Cert American Heart_non ecard (BLS AHA) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART), BLS Certification Grace (BLS GRACE) - Employee Grace Period for Essential Credential (GRACE), BLS Cert Red Cross (BLS RC) - Red Cross (RED CROSS)
  • One (1) year of experience required.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision with a positive disposition.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Nice To Haves

  • Labor & Delivery experience preferred
  • Certified Surgical Technologist certification (CST or TS-C) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and accounts for instruments, sponges, and supplies throughout each procedure to ensure patient safety.
  • Assists nursing staff in direct patient care, including preparation, transport, positioning, and draping of patients for surgery.
  • Precepts and mentors new staff members, fostering skill development and supporting orientation and onboarding.
  • Handles, labels, and processes surgical specimens according to established protocols for safe and accurate delivery to the laboratory.
  • Prepares the operating room by setting up sterile fields with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment, and supplies tailored to each case.
  • Anticipates the needs of the surgical team by passing instruments, supplies, and equipment efficiently during procedures while maintaining strict sterile technique.
  • Collaborates with the sterile processing team to decontaminate, prepare, and sterilize surgical instruments and supplies.
  • Contributes to a safe and supportive environment by adhering to infection prevention, patient safety, and quality standards.
  • Verifies that surgical instruments and equipment are functioning properly and promptly reports or addresses any issues.
