About The Position

UChicago Medicine Crown Point is seeking a Surgical Technologist I for its Ambulatory Surgery Center. UChicago Medicine is an integrated academic and community health system serving Chicago and Northwest Indiana. This is a 100% onsite role. The Surgical Technologist I assists nursing and medical staff in providing care to patients undergoing surgical intervention, performing surgical scrub technologist duties, and collaborating with other disciplines to revise patient care plans. The role involves constant contact with Operating Room staff, physicians, clerical staff, anesthesia staff, and materials management. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of Accredited Surgical Technologist program
  • Certification as a CST from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (must obtain within 12 months of hire)
  • Minimum experience is graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist school

Responsibilities

  • Independently performs the surgical scrub role for all services, including adult and pediatric cases
  • Prepares and maintains a sterile field using proper aseptic and infection‑control techniques
  • Applies knowledge of surgical procedures, including emergency and trauma cases
  • Prepares operating rooms by setting up instruments, supplies, and equipment according to surgeon preference cards, policies, and standards of care
  • Operates and troubleshoots video and surgical equipment; ensures proper handling, care, and sterilization of instrumentation
  • Assists with patient care and procedures, including room setup, patient positioning, opening sterile supplies, counts, specimen handling, and emergency situations
  • Ensures compliance with quality and safety measures, including accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts; medication and specimen handling; and implant and electrosurgical safety
  • Collaborates with RN Circulators, Charge Nurse, Unit Leadership, and Central Sterile Processing to anticipate needs, manage preference cards, and ensure efficient case flow
  • Maintains inventory and restocks OR and specialty carts; supports cost‑effective use of supplies and equipment
  • Communicates effectively during handoffs, assists with room turnover and case setup, and serves as a resource to patients, visitors, and staff
  • Performs other duties as assigned
