About The Position

Join a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine Crown Point as a Surgical Technologist II at the Ambulatory Surgery Center. UChicago Medicine is an integrated academic and community health system with multiple primary medical facilities within the surrounding suburbs of Chicago and Northwest Indiana. The Sterile Processing Technician II is responsible for the decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment to support safe and efficient surgical care. This role requires flexibility to rotate through all sterile processing areas, shifts, weekends, and holidays, while maintaining strict adherence to quality, safety, and infection control standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience in Central Sterile Processing.
  • Knowledge of hospital equipment, surgical instrumentation, medical terminology, and sterile processing workflows.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to urgent and emergency supply needs.
  • Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician required within 18 months of hire, with ongoing maintenance of credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminates, cleans, assembles, sterilizes, and prepares surgical instruments, trays, supplies, and equipment according to established procedures
  • Operates and monitors sterilization and cleaning equipment, including washers, sonic cleaners, cart washers, sterilizers, and heat sealers
  • Demonstrates full knowledge of sterilization modalities, chemicals, detergents, and disinfecting agents used in Sterile Processing
  • Assembles trays and peel packs with proper identification, indicators, labeling, and documentation, monitors and records sterilization loads
  • Inspects instruments and packaging integrity; removes defective or compromised items from service and reports concerns promptly
  • Transport clean and soiled case carts and instrumentation between Operating Rooms, Perioperative Services, and Sterile Processing areas
  • Maintains inventory, restocks sterile storage and specialty carts, and ensures established PAR levels are met
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives and maintains cleanliness and organization of workstations
  • Adheres to organizational safety, security, infection control, and confidentiality policies always
  • Completes required education, training, and competencies to maintain knowledge, skills, and certifications
