About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Temporary Surgical Technician to join our surgical team. The ideal candidate will provide essential support to surgeons and other medical personnel during surgical procedures. This role requires a strong understanding of aseptic technique, surgical instrumentation, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The Temporary Surgical Technician will be directly accountable for preventing hospital-acquired infections, ensuring the operating room is properly prepared, and responding effectively to emergency situations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency.
  • Graduate of an Accredited Surgical Technology Program approved by: CAAHEP - Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or ABHES - Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools.
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent surgical technician experience in an operating room setting.
  • BLS certification by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Surgical Technician Certification (CST) authorized by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). Certification must be current and maintained.
  • Must be able to provide proof of certification and experience.
  • Must be able to provide professional references.
  • Must be able to work temporary assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Directly accountable for preventing hospital-acquired infections related to hand-hygiene performance of self and staff.
  • Under direct supervision, assists the operating surgeon in the care of patients in surgery and performs assigned selected duties.
  • Prepares for surgery in an acceptable timeframe. Prioritizes workload and prepares for the specific operative procedure utilizing appropriate Preference Care/Case Cart Requisition.
  • Demonstrates acceptable standards of aseptic technique when scrubbed and a working knowledge of the surgical procedure, instrumentation, supplies, and equipment needed.
  • Responds appropriately to any unanticipated or emergency situation that may arise intra-operatively and assists with CPR of patient during cardiac arrest.
  • Utilizes equipment properly, according to manufacturer's recommendations and adhering to OR protocols. Ensures OR is stocked and ready for each case. Assures equipment is cleaned and maintained for use by the next staff member and/or patient.
  • Follows the hospital's policy and procedures on discarding contaminated and hazardous materials.
  • Maintains established hospital policies, procedures, directives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards appropriate to this position.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of practice.
