About The Position

The Surgical Technician (uncertified or unlicensed) serves as a member of the surgical team, responds to patient needs, prepares and maintains resources (e.g., equipment, instruments, supplies), and provides safe, quality health care services and/or assistance for surgical procedures in accordance with level of experience, education, policies/procedures/protocols, and standards. This role supports the total peri-operative process by providing intra-operative patient care as directed and anticipating surgeon’s needs regarding medical supplies, instrumentation, and equipment availability and readiness. The technician maintains a safe and clean operating room suite, assists with documentation, and performs essential duties and techniques appropriate to their role. They participate in quality improvement processes and may serve as a resource, role model, or mentor.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • At least one (1) year experience in a health care or military medical setting
  • Meets requirements for applicable state(s) of engagement.
  • Ability to follow tasks through to completion.
  • Ability to understand and relate to complex ideas/concepts.
  • Ability to remember multiple tasks and regimens over long periods of time.
  • Ability to work on concurrent tasks/projects.
  • Ability to read small print.
  • Ability to hear sounds and voice/speech patterns.
  • Ability to give/receive instructions and other verbal communications (in-person and/or over the phone/computer/device/equipment assigned) with some background noise.
  • Perform manual dexterity activities and/or grasping/handling.
  • Ability to climb, kneel, crouch and/or operate foot controls.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and use available personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Comply with Trinity Health’s Code of Conduct, policies, procedures & guidelines.
  • Ability to provide assistance in the event of an emergency.
  • Perform activities that require standing/walking with the ability to vary/adjust physical position or activity.
  • Lift a maximum of 30 pounds unassisted.
  • Use upper & lower extremities, engage in bending/stooping/reaching & pushing/pulling.
  • Work indoors (subject to travel requirements) under temperature-controlled & well-lit conditions.
  • Encounter worksites (e.g., patient homes) or travel to worksites that may have variable internal & external environmental conditions.
  • Perform work that involves physical efforts (e.g., transporting, moving, positioning & / or ambulating patients).

  • May serve as a resource (lead), role model & / or mentor.
