About The Position

The Surgical Technician at the NorthPointe Ambulatory Surgery Center is responsible for the scrub role during surgical procedures. This involves setting up and taking down the appropriate equipment and instrumentation, anticipating surgeon needs, and assisting with cleanup and turnover activities. The Surgical Technician will apply specialty knowledge to patient care situations, maintain knowledge of anatomy and physiology related to assigned procedures, and assume responsibility for being knowledgeable of all surgical procedures and equipment/instruments required. They will set up and maintain the instrument table in an organized, neat manner, observe and anticipate surgeons' needs, and count needles, sponges, and instruments per policy using protective devices for disposal. The role requires maintaining patient safety at all times and strictly adhering to infection control policies including bloodborne pathogen precautions and aseptic techniques. The Surgical Technician will participate in room set up, pre-procedure preparation, draping, and room turnover independently. They must be able to maintain control, reacting calmly, efficiently and professionally in emergency situations, and properly handle specimens, labeling them correctly on the field and communicating identifying information to the circulating nurse. The position also involves performing unit-specific duties according to established policies and procedures, and other job-related duties as assigned. This role may require taking call and responding to emergency or unusual situations, and may involve working irregular hours.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a Surgical Technician program, or equivalent experience and training.
  • Certification preferred.
  • BLS within 3 months of hire.
  • Must wear PPE (personal protective equipment) such as gloves, mask, gown, goggles, as per protocol and policy.
  • Adhere to established hospital and nursing department policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Involves physical effort that includes walking, sitting, twisting, reaching, standing at long intervals.
  • Fine finger movements in the use of hands involves handling surgical instruments, gripping and assisting the physician with surgical needs.
  • Requires the ability to see and hear at a level enough to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in Orthopedics and Ophthalmology is strongly preferred.
