About The Position

The Surgical Technician assists the surgical team in preparing surgical procedures in the operating room. The role prepares surgical cases by creating and maintaining a sterile field, retracting, and passing instruments, supplies, and medications to surgeons during cases. It also involves performing technical skills, including maintaining supplies.

Requirements

• High school education, GED, or equivalent is required.
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor per Adventist Health policy is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor per Adventist Health policy is required for the facility.

Nice To Haves

• Associate’s or technical degree, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
• Scrub technician experience.
• Operating room experience and/or completion of an operating room training course.
• Surgery Technician certification.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.

Responsibilities

• Check required supplies and equipment for each surgical case and assemble the appropriate supplies and equipment before procedures.
• Review specialty equipment inventory as assigned and set up operative instrumentation and the sterile field for efficient retrieval and use.
• Collect data on assigned surgical cases according to the unit-based Performance Standards of Care.
• Clean equipment and facilities as necessary and perform housekeeping duties as requested.
• Transport patients according to unit schedules and priorities and provide clerical support.
• Complete instrument, sponge, needle, and blade counts with the Registered Nurse according to established standards.
• Maintain a neat, orderly sterile field and demonstrate careful attention to aseptic technique.
• Label solutions according to established standards.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
