About The Position

Under direction of a Physician or Registered Nurse, the Surgical Tech is responsible for assisting surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses in the care of patients in the Operating Room. This role involves maintaining aseptic technique, preparing the sterile field, anticipating the needs of the surgical team, and ensuring proper care of instruments and supplies. The Surgical Tech also plays a role in decontamination and preparation for sterilization of instruments, maintaining a safe work environment, and staying current with surgical procedures and instrumentation.

Requirements

  • Current BLS
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Scrub tech program or Minimum of 2 years’ experience working as a scrub tech.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Formal Aseptic Technique Training
  • Demonstrate computer skills including word processing, databases and e-mail.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge and practice of aseptic technique.
  • Assists the circulating nurse in the preparation of surgical procedures and during room turnovers between procedures.
  • Prepares sterile field for surgical procedures, ensuring proper instruments and supplies are available for use.
  • Anticipation of needs for surgeon and passing of instruments and supplies during surgical procedures.
  • Functions as assistant, when needed.
  • Obtains counts with circulating nurse.
  • Cares for specimens according to procedure.
  • Maintains proper care of instruments and supplies when procedure is finished.
  • Maintains equipment, supplies and environmental safety.
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends in surgical procedures and instrumentation.
  • Maintains standards by participating in in-services, committees, etc.
  • Decontaminating and preparation for sterilization of instruments utilized during surgical cases.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
