About The Position

This role facilitates the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures by adhering to applicable policies, procedures, surgical protocols, and principles of asepsis. The Surgical Tech Student will prepare the surgical suite, manage instruments and supplies, assist with patient preparation and positioning, and maintain knowledge of new surgical procedures and patient care. The position also involves functioning as a superuser for selected medical equipment and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

• Minimum: High School diploma or equivalent and current, active enrollment in an accredited surgical technologist program
• Minimum: Two (2) years in a healthcare setting
• Basic Life Safety (American Heart Association)

Responsibilities

• Facilitate the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures through compliance with applicable policies procedures, surgical protocols and principles of asepsis.
• Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile drapes and sterile solutions as well as appropriate sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
• Hand required/requested instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery while maintaining a sterile field.
• Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
• Maintain instruments in an organized manner and monitor/track instrument counts throughout procedures.
• Remain current and competent in knowledge and skills necessary to meet the responsibility of the position and take initiative to inquire and explore new surgical procedures and subjects relating to the surgical patient and operating room environment.
• Function as a superuser of selected medical equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
