About The Position

The Surgical Tech works under the supervision and delegatory authority of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. The surgical tech recognizes significant conditions and reactions of the patient and notifies the appropriate patient care team as necessary.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of a Surgical Tech program with the ability to sit for certification OR 2 years minimum working in a Surgical Tech role (for Surgical Technologist I)
  • Minimum of 2 years in a Surgical Technologist/Technician role if completion of a Surgical tech program has not been completed (for Surgical Technologist I)
  • American Heart Association CPR (BLS)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented.
  • High School Diploma or GED; requires completion of a Surgical Tech program and Surgical Technologist Certification with a minimum of 3 years working in a Surgical Tech role OR minimum 5 years working in a Surgical Tech role (for Surgical Technologist II)
  • Minimum of 3 years in Surgical Technologist role if certified (for Surgical Technologist II)
  • Minimum of 5 years in Surgical Technologist role if not certified (for Surgical Technologist II)
  • Surgical Technologist Certification or 5 years or more in a Surgical Technologist role (for Surgical Technologist II)

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures.
  • Ensure the operating room environment is safe.
  • Ensure equipment functions properly.
  • Conduct operative procedures under conditions that maximize patient safety.
  • Recognize significant conditions and reactions of the patient and notify the appropriate patient care team as necessary.
  • Intra-operative orientation to learn department/unit policies, procedures and work routines.
  • Develop competency in the use of medical equipment and instruments used in the procedure/operating room.
  • Learn quality/safety standards.
  • Gain an understanding of the various types of surgical procedures within their service line.
