About The Position

The Surgical Support and Anesthesia Tech assists with preparing, delivering, and cleaning up patient care during the intra-operative phase and contributes to the smooth operation of the unit. The role obtains and organizes equipment, sterile supplies, and instruments for each surgical case; assembles supplies for operating rooms and case tables; opens sterile supplies; cleans equipment, work areas, and reusable supplies, including decontaminating and sterilizing instruments; returns unneeded equipment to the appropriate department; and follows up on equipment needing repairs.

The position is based in the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Operating Room. The department performs more than 8,000 cases annually, has eight operating rooms—including one with a fully integrated iMRI suite—and supports a wide variety of pediatric specialties. Orientation is full-time for 6–8 weeks. The position is part-time, scheduled for 20 hours weekly, with variable shifts.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• AHA or ARC American Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 60 days.

• Assemble surgical supplies for operating rooms and case tables.
• Open sterile supplies for surgical procedures.
• Clean equipment, work areas, and reusable supplies, including decontaminating and sterilizing instruments.
• Return unneeded equipment to the appropriate department.
• Follow up on equipment needing repairs.
