About The Position

This role is within a Level 3 trauma center with 15 operating rooms in the Magnet Designated Corewell Health System. The unit is a center of excellence for bariatrics and total joints, with approximately 40% of cases being total joints and elective spine. The remaining 60% include General, Colon/Rectal, Urology, Bariatric, Plastic, and ENT surgeries. The environment is high-tech, featuring 3 Davinci robots, a Mako robot, Mazor, and Stealth technology. The OR is a team environment where Nurses, Surgical Technologists, and Surgery Support Staff collaborate to care for patients and support surgeons and anesthesia providers. The team also acts as patient advocates while patients are under anesthesia, requiring precise, critical thinking within short timeframes, while prioritizing cost-effective quality care and patient safety. Blodgett Hospital is situated on a quiet, beautifully maintained property with mature trees and healing gardens, known for high-quality, compassionate, and personalized medical care since 1846. It operates as a community and teaching hospital with 248 private patient rooms and outpatient services, achieving high patient satisfaction rates.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of relevant experience
  • Patient Care Preferred
  • 1 year of relevant experience in Operating Room Preferred
  • AHA or ARC American Basic Life Support (BLS) within 60 Days of hire required

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree in related field
  • Anesthesia Technician Certification (Cer. A.T.) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the preparation, delivery, and clean-up of patient care during the intra-operative phase.
  • Contributes to the smooth operation of the unit.
  • Obtains and organizes necessary equipment, sterile supplies, and instruments for each surgical case.
  • Assembles surgical supplies for rooms and case tables.
  • Opens sterile supplies for surgical procedures.
  • Cleans equipment (including decontamination and sterilization of instruments), work areas, and reusable supplies.
  • Returns unneeded equipment to the appropriate department.
  • Follows up on equipment needing repairs.
  • Sets up anesthesia machines and runs tests to ensure the air is flowing correctly.
