The Surgical Services Technologist (ST) performs delegated duties to ensure a safe Operating Room (OR) environment, proper functioning and cleaning of equipment, and that operative procedures are conducted with maximum patient safety. The ST possesses expertise in sterile and aseptic techniques, combining knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and tools/technologies to safely facilitate invasive and/or diagnostic procedures. The ST can manage stressful situations positively and embodies OHSU Core Competencies (Accountability, Collaboration, Communication, Diversity, Integrity, Respect, Service Orientation, Teamwork). The South Operating Room (SOR) is a Level 1 Trauma OR, the main OR at OHSU, with 25 suites serving primarily adult inpatients across various service lines including Cardiothoracic, General Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Colorectal, Bariatric, Gynecology, Oral Maxillofacial, Neurosurgery, Spine, Orthopedic, Otolaryngology, Plastics, Transplant, Urology, Vascular, Gender Affirmation, and Trauma. SOR provides care for patients from early adolescents to geriatrics, with occasional pediatric patients, covering a spectrum from elective to emergency surgeries. Supporting approximately 14,000 cases annually (50 cases/day weekdays, 16 cases/day weekends), SOR operates 24/7 with elective scheduling and supports acute, urgent, and emergent care.
