About The Position

This is a position in a busy Sterile Processing Department (SPD) that supports the Main Operating Room. The department covers a wide range of surgical services including General, GYN (minimal, usually only Robotic), Cardiovascular/Thoracic, Open Hearts, Laparoscopic, Urology, Ortho, Ortho/Totals, Neuro Spine and Crani, and Organ Procurement. The role requires the ability to serve as a preceptor for peers and new employees, acting as a supportive guide. Minimum expectations include a bioburden error rate of 0.1% or less monthly and an average of 20 trays per day (100 instruments per tray). The unit has 15 rooms with an average surgical volume of 25-40 cases, resulting in a daily tray volume of approximately 224. The department utilizes the SPM System for unit systems. Scrub color is provided by the facility. Return to Office (RTO) is a maximum of 7 days. Weekends are every other weekend unless otherwise specified. Floating within sectors of SPD is required. Call requirements are rare. If one major holiday falls within the assignment period, the traveler is expected to work it. If two major holidays fall within the assignment period, the traveler is expected to work both. If three major holidays fall within the assignment period, the traveler is expected to work two of them. Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Years Eve/New Years Day. Full compliance is required to start on time; non-compliance will result in a two-week delay due to the bi-weekly orientation schedule. Candidates will undergo a clinical screen for fit, and if passed and within Piedmont guidelines, will be sent to the manager for a final decision. Clinical screens are handled on a case-by-case basis. Locals are accepted at the same rate. The number of non-billable orientation hours is determined by the contract length (e.g., 8 hours for an 8-week assignment; 10 hours for a 10-week assignment).
