About The Position

The Surgical Services Manager (RN) plays a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of effective, efficient, and safe patient care services within the clinic. This position provides dynamic leadership to a multidisciplinary team comprising of Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) staff, Procurement/Inventory staff, Physiotherapy, Maintenance and Physician Extenders. The primary focus is maintaining operational excellence, fostering collaboration between departments, and achieving exceptional care and outcomes for Clearpoint Health patients. The Surgical Services Manager plays a critical role in driving the success of Clearpoint Health by ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. Leadership and Team Management: Lead and inspire a diverse team of healthcare professionals, while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Operational Excellence: This role ensures compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and professional practice standards while maintaining safe, efficient, and high-quality support services for surgical operations. The Manager provides leadership to MDR technicians, inventory specialists, and maintenance personnel, ensuring the availability, sterilization, and proper functioning of surgical instruments and equipment. The role supports patient Quality safety, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and financial stewardship across all surgical support services. Quality of Service: Maintain a high standard of service delivery, focusing on patient safety, satisfaction, and outcomes. Implement quality improvement initiatives and monitor performance metrics to drive continuous enhancement of care delivery processes. Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between various departments within the facility to streamline patient care pathways and ensure seamless transitions across the surgical continuum. Compliance and Standards: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards governing surgical clinic operations. Stay abreast of updates and changes in regulations, implementing necessary adjustments to policies and practices accordingly. Monitors and reports on operational quality metrics including sterilization compliance, instrument readiness, and equipment performance. Leads investigations into safety incidents or quality concerns related to surgical support services. Financial Stewardship: Demonstrates fiscal accountability in the management of departmental budgets and resources. Supports budget planning through operational data and performance metrics. Monitors equipment utilization, maintenance costs, and inventory expenditures

Requirements

  • Graduate of a recognized Nursing Program
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or relevant field
  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN), in good standing with the provincial regulatory body/college of nurses
  • Completion of an accredited peri-operative nursing program a requirement with 3-5 years in the intra-operative environment
  • BCLS/ACLS Certified and PALS, if applicable
  • Minimum 2 years in a leadership role (e.g., Charge Nurse, Specialty Coordinator, Practice Lead)
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to motivate and empower staff to achieve organizational goals.
  • General computer proficiency, including the use of all Microsoft Suite applications
  • Ability to advocate for staff to ensure a safe work environment
  • Excellent time and project management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, fluent in English, Bilingual preferred
  • Demonstrated critical thinking abilities
  • Adept at facilitating actions and resolving conflicts
  • Manages relationships, influences and displays grace under fire
  • Knowledge of the medical industry's legislation and guidelines

Responsibilities

  • Maintain compliance with all Company policies, procedures, mission and vision
  • Utilize evidence-based knowledge and prevailing standards for clinical resource team members
  • Monitor the scheduling of clinical staff in keeping with Worked Hours Per Patient targets
  • Assist in the organization and promotion of monthly educational sessions and annual development of staff at all levels
  • Monitor monthly P&L reports with the Regional Director of Operations compared to the budget
  • Conduct clinical equipment evaluation and preventative maintenance
  • Evaluate current practice through Quality and Performance Improvement measures
  • Ensures compliance with medical device reprocessing standards, sterilization procedures, and infection prevention protocols.
  • Oversees instrument tracking systems ensuring full traceability of instruments and implants.
  • Ensures appropriate documentation of sterilization cycles, biological indicators, and quality monitoring.
  • Oversee the coordination of Physiotherapy and Physician Extender services and provide support for day-to-day operational issues.
  • Communicate with scheduling contacts to address scheduling concerns and ensure appropriate service coverage.
  • Coordinate departmental support activities, including equipment purchasing and responding to patient or operational needs.
  • Leads quality improvement initiatives related to sterile processing and surgical readiness.
  • Coordinates staff education and in-service training programs.
  • Oversees inventory control systems including implant tracking, supply chain monitoring, and par level management.
  • Ensures adequate availability of surgical instruments, implants, and consumables.
  • Manages procurement, storage, and distribution of surgical supplies.
  • Oversees preventive maintenance programs for surgical equipment in coordination with vendors and biomedical services.
  • Manage Clinic accreditation maintenance and monitoring
  • Manage Clinic incident management and reporting
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and manage change within the facility
  • Initiate and lead interviews for recruitment for team member selection
  • Assist with the orientation and support of new team members and the ongoing compliance of the team members.
  • Protect patients and team members by monitoring and adhering to infection control policies, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substances regulations
  • Participate cooperatively and communicate effectively with team members using daily huddles and continuous rounding
