About The Position

The Surgical Services Educator is responsible for planning, developing, and delivering in-service and continuing education programs for Surgery staff. This role involves assessing learning needs in collaboration with Specialty Coordinators and leadership, and partnering with the Clinical Nurse Specialist to advance continuing education strategies and professional practice. The educator serves as a consultant and resource to staff, supporting problem resolution and role development. Key responsibilities include leading cross-training and role integration initiatives, coordinating didactic and clinical education, and developing preceptor education programs. The role also focuses on promoting teamwork, communication, and Clinical Practice Development Model (CPDM) coaching, while educating physicians, students, and ancillary staff on Standards of Practice.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices.
  • Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification issued by the Competency & Credentialing Institute (CCI).
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
  • 5 years of experience in surgery, that includes experience in med nurse, scrub and circulate.
  • Excellent communication skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Must demonstrate self-direction for professional autonomy and accountability.
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) or similar products.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, and delivers in-service and continuing education programs for Surgery staff.
  • Assesses individual and specialty-specific learning needs in collaboration with Specialty Coordinators and leadership.
  • Partners with the Clinical Nurse Specialist to advance continuing education strategies and professional practice.
  • Serves as an educational consultant and resource to staff, supporting problem resolution and role development.
  • Leads cross-training and role integration initiatives to promote high-quality, consistent patient care.
  • Coordinates didactic and clinical education, including role-specific preparation for certification exams.
  • Develops, evaluates, and supports preceptor education programs in collaboration with the Orientation Liaison.
  • Promotes effective teamwork, communication, and Clinical Practice Development Model (CPDM) coaching.
  • Educates physicians, students, and ancillary staff while modeling and advocating compliance with Standards of Practice.
