About The Position

The Surgical Scheduler plays a critical role in coordinating and managing the scheduling of surgical procedures for patients. This position involves working closely with physicians, patients, and various healthcare facilities to ensure that surgeries are planned and executed smoothly. The Surgical Scheduler is responsible for maintaining up-to-date information on the physician’s schedule, verifying insurance, obtaining necessary authorizations, and ensuring that all pre-surgical requirements are met. This role requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • At least 1 years’ experience in a medical setting
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Knowledge of Outlook and Microsoft Word Processing software.
  • Must be able to talk or hear, stand, walk, sit, and type.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, schedule, and provide surgical information to patients.
  • Maintain and update the physician’s schedule to ensure patients are scheduled correctly and appointments are confirmed.
  • Handle insurance verification, obtain testing and surgical authorizations, and perform coding for all surgical procedures.
  • Ensure all equipment, labs, and medical clearances are ordered, received, reviewed, and communicated to patients with a treatment plan in a timely manner to avoid delays in surgeries.
  • Ensure physicians have all required documentation for surgery according to their protocols.
  • Manage requests for medical information promptly and efficiently between departments, hospitals, and surgery centers.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure coordinated efforts and high-quality patient services throughout the clinic.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Stay informed about and comply with all state and federal laws, including HIPAA, ADA, OSHA, and FLSA.
  • Adapt to changes in a positive and professional manner, and perform any other duties as assigned.
