About The Position

The Surgical Scheduler is responsible for obtaining authorizations for surgical CPT codes, managing physician templates for blocking and rescheduling as needed, and providing cross-coverage with front desk and registration. This role is also responsible for providing pre-surgical documentation for physicians and instructions for patients. The Surgical Scheduler will schedule surgeries and other ancillary tests as directed by the Physician or Practice Manager by appropriately placing them on the calendar and scheduling in EPIC Optime in a timely manner.

Requirements

• Obtains authorizations for surgical CPT codes
• Manages physician template for blocking and rescheduling as needed
• Cross-coverage with front desk and registration
• Provides pre-surgical documentation for physicians and instructions for patients
• Schedules surgeries and other ancillary tests
• Schedules in EPIC Optime

Responsibilities

• Interfaces with appropriate vendor staff to ensure all necessary equipment will be available on site for hospital based procedures.
• Confirms patient's insurance and obtains prior authorization or communicates prior authorization to appropriate parties as needed.
• Ensures all required documentation and pre-testing is completed, obtained and reviewed by clinical staff prior to surgery.
• Ensures patients have proper medical clearance and pre-surgical testing as needed.
• Completes all pre-procedure phone calls, confirms appointment time and place and communicates instructions to patient.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Acts as liaison between the patient and physician regarding the surgery.
