About The Position

Capital Health is seeking a Surgical Scheduler to collaborate with the OR and GI Endoscopy Unit to schedule cases, negotiate dates and times, and avoid resource conflicts. This role coordinates special procedure needs with appropriate departments, staff, and external resources. The Surgical Scheduler gathers complete patient and procedure information, schedules procedures and testing for patients at the hospital on a timely basis, and prepares and distributes schedules according to established time frames. This position works closely with physicians and office administration to schedule and maximize utilization of time, and obtains pre-certification and authorizations from various insurance carriers. The role also completes referrals and pre-certifications for patients according to insurance requirements, demonstrates willingness to assist co-workers, and works independently to assure prompt patient service. The Surgical Scheduler oversees the registration and checkout process, handles medical records for efficient patient flow, and reviews routine issues, difficulties, and unusual circumstances with the physician. Difficult situations are referred to the Director/Manager. The position performs all medical receptionist duties, including answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, filing information, checking patients in and out, collecting co-pays and fees, and completing associated computer and paperwork. The Surgical Scheduler coordinates the communication of follow-up care needs/reminder cards to patients, oversees the filing and management of medical records, and plans the daily schedule to maximize physician productivity. This role also coordinates/schedules other physician activities/programs, hospital patient activity for doctors and the billing company, and works directly with providers to implement scheduling for maximum productivity. Additionally, the Surgical Scheduler coordinates the scheduling of resources like exam rooms and equipment, and works with physician(s) and Director/Manager to develop and implement a practice-specific plan for the introduction and growth of the practice in the community.
