This specific role involves the hand-finishing manufacturing of surgical instruments, with a focus on bipolar forceps. The technician will perform preliminary steps to prepare surgical instruments for finishing, utilizing skills such as filing, bending, polishing, and advanced metalworking techniques under a microscope to meet quality standards for form, fit, and function, ensuring safety for customer use. The role also includes trimming back coating on forceps tips, removing adhesives, polishing forceps without damaging insulative coating, accurately using measurement tools to adhere to tight tolerances, and comprehending production from engineering blueprints and technical drawings. Collaboration with Quality Control, Production Planning, and Engineering, along with maintaining accurate record-keeping and following 5S and Lean Manufacturing procedures, are also key aspects of the position. Other duties may be assigned by management.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED preferred
0-1 year experience in Manufacturing environment
Preferred 2+ years minimum Surgical instrument manufacturing experience
Experience with general manufacturing processes
Assessment of skills will be part of the training process
Ability to follow verbal and written manufacturing procedures
Excellent hand-eye coordination

Responsibilities

Perform preliminary steps on surgical instruments to prepare for finishing.
Work under a microscope and use trade skills such as filing, bending, polishing, and other advanced metalworking techniques to consistently meet or exceed the established quality standards for form, fit, and function to meet safety standards for use with our customers.
Trim back coating on forceps tips to specifications, and remove adhesives underneath using blades and files.
Polish forceps under a microscope to remove machine and file marks using various polishing wheels under a microscope, without damaging the insulative coating.
Accurately use measurement tools, including calipers, micrometer, and various gauges, to accurately adhere to tolerances as low as +/- .010".
Comprehend and implement production from engineering level blueprints and technical drawings.
Cross communicate with areas including Quality Control, Production Planning, and Engineering.
Maintain accurate record-keeping of outputs, scrap, and inventory.
Rework rejections from Quality Control area.
Preserve workflow pattern by following established 5S and Lean Manufacturing procedures.
Other duties as assigned by management.
