About The Position

Wilson Health is seeking a direct hire Surgical First Assistant for its Surgical Services Department. This department performs over 4,000 inpatient and outpatient surgeries annually across various specialties including gynecology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, general surgery, ENT, urology, podiatry, plastic surgery, and endoscopy, as well as radiology interventional procedures. The department is staffed by a team of board-certified surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, surgical technologists, sterile processing technicians, medical assistants, and X-ray technologists. The First Assistant will provide direct assistance to a physician during surgical procedures, practicing under the surgeon's supervision to ensure safe operations and optimal patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • Current Surgical Tech Certification
  • Completion of First Assist Program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 3 months of hire and maintained.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 1 year of hire and maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in preoperative assessment and planning for selected surgical patients in collaboration with perioperative team members in the preoperative location.
  • Responsible for applying principles of asepsis and infection control management.
  • Displays consistent awareness of safety hazards and initiates appropriate preventative and corrective actions.
  • Handles and dissects tissues in collaboration with the surgeon.
  • Clamps blood vessels, coagulating bleeding points, ligation of vessels, and performs other procedures in collaboration with the surgeon.
  • Responsible for suturing muscle, fascia, subcutaneous, and skin tissue in collaboration with the surgeon.
