About The Position

First Assist Opportunities (1099 Contractor) Are you an experienced Surgical First Assist looking for the flexibility and independence of a 1099 contractor role? If so, we'd love to connect with you. We are currently seeking Licensed Surgical Assists (LSA), Physician Assistants (PA), Nurse Practitioners (NP), and Registered Nurse First Assists (RNFA) to partner with our team and support surgeons across a variety of surgical specialties. This is an OR-only opportunity that allows you to focus on what you do best: providing skilled first-assist support during surgical procedures. As an independent contractor, you'll have the flexibility to accept cases that fit your schedule while continuing to maintain and support your existing surgeon relationships.

Requirements

  • Must have at least 2 years of surgical assisting experience.
  • Must have experience assisting in spine, ortho, GYN, General and robotics.
  • Must have excellent computer skills, specifically MS Office, and EMR.
  • Must be a graduate of an Accredited Master’s Degree program for Physician Assistant Studies for PAs, or a Master/Doctoral Degree Program in Nurse Practitioner Studies for NPs.
  • Nurse Practitioners must have their CNOR or RNFA.
  • Must possess current state license where practicing and PAs must hold National Commissioned Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Able to perform all essential duties with or without accommodations, including but not limited to: Ability to lift, sit, stand, or squat Constantly seeing, hearing, and speaking Frequent lifting to 20+ lbs. in addition to bending, reaching, standing, walking, and kneeling.

Responsibilities

  • Primary function is to provide first assist support during surgical procedures.
  • Confirm cases, meet patients, explain procedures, obtain necessary documentation, and coordinate with OR staff.
  • Assist with patient positioning, maintain sterile field, anticipate surgeon needs, and collaborate with the OR team.
  • Assist with patient transfer, provide PACU handover, and complete necessary documentation.
  • Participate in clinical and operational projects, such as education, training, and process improvement.
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn new surgical specialties and expand skill set.
