Assists surgeons skillfully during a variety of surgical procedures. This role involves using surgical instruments, providing exposure of the operative site, suturing various tissues, and handling tissue appropriately to minimize injury. The technologist anticipates patient and surgeon needs, prepares and re-evaluates equipment and supply needs, and demonstrates knowledge of diverse surgical procedures. Critical judgment is used to develop plans of care, and the role may involve performing in various surgical specialties. Competence in delegation, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and team building is expected, along with evaluating team member care and providing feedback. The technologist maintains accountability for the standard of care, acts as a resource, and meets the physical, psycho-social, spiritual, cultural, and age-appropriate needs of patients. Efficient time management, organization, and positive interpersonal relationships are essential. The role requires working in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
