Geisinger is proud to offer an OR Surgical Equipment Technician a $16.24 minimum hiring rate with increased rates for experienced individuals. The OR Surgical Equipment Technician prepares, cleans, and cares for equipment and equipment supplies for surgical procedures within the surgical suite. This role is responsible for ensuring the very best patient and family experience by optimizing all customer interaction. The technician maintains knowledge of aseptic technique, methods of disposal and clean up of contaminated equipment and supplies to prevent cross contamination and personal injury. This position requires basic knowledge of patient care equipment, plumbing, electric and mechanics. The technician sets up and follows through with routine maintenance schedules for equipment to help reduce and eliminate down time and maximize equipment life. They read and understand various equipment manuals for use in troubleshooting and minor repair of equipment, and set up and operate equipment in various modes for the process of troubleshooting and inspection. The role involves ordering and stocking equipment parts and supplies, as needed, to maintain optimum performance, efficiency, and life of equipment, and assists with stocking extra parts and supplies in an organized fashion in the equipment area. The technician also assists clinical engineering, ISS, and outside vendors in inspection and repair of equipment, obtains loaners for equipment returned to the manufacturer for repair to help reduce shortages in the operating room, and tracks and returns loaner equipment efficiently to avoid penalties and late fees. This role coordinates the non-hospital owned trial equipment process and safety inspection, and coordinates equipment in storage areas. They arrange reviews of equipment storage areas with management to eliminate obsolete equipment. The technician maintains inventory, repair, and maintenance history on all equipment. They maintain knowledge of high-pressure medical gas cylinders, order and maintain adequate stock to avoid cancellation of cases, and safely transport tanks in and out of the operating room. The technician maintains knowledge of the different gases used on various pieces of equipment to avoid patient injury, and changes or modifies gauges, hoses, and tanks on equipment. This role works in conjunction with staff and materials management in reviewing maintenance and warranty contracts to ensure accuracy and maximum benefit, and coordinates assembly and inspection of new surgical equipment. Work is typically performed in an office environment. The technician is accountable for satisfying all job-specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
