About The Position

The Surgical Coordinator, Orthopedics is responsible for scheduling surgical appointments, obtaining necessary medical reports, and securing surgical authorizations from insurance companies. This role involves direct patient interaction for check-in/check-out, verifying information, collecting co-payments, and scheduling follow-up appointments. The position requires excellent communication skills, the ability to manage unexpected changes, and maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA. The coordinator may also be required to float to the front desk or other MACC practices for coverage.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Experience in a medical office setting including scheduling of at least one (1) year experience or Bachelor’s Degree
  • Demonstrated excellence in providing customer service
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • At least one (1) year experience with current office technology, proficient with medical computer office applications (Electronic Medical/Health Records, MS Office, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • Medical Terminology knowledge preferred
  • Typing skills at 30 WPM preferred

Responsibilities

  • Schedule surgical appointments for the practice
  • Obtain reports of lab work, X-ray, EKG reports by primary care doctor, cardiologist, etc. and fax to the appropriate facilities
  • Obtain surgical authorizations in accordance with insurance company guidelines to ensure proper financial clearance
  • Communicate with referring providers regarding scheduling and completion of surgeries
  • Check-in and check-out patients as needed; responsibilities will include verifying and obtaining insurance and demographic information, collecting co-payments, and scheduling follow-up appointments
  • Answers the phone in a timely, polite and professional manner, in three rings or less, directs calls to appropriate persons and takes accurate messages within the electronic medical record
  • Demonstrate the ability to adjust to unexpected changes to assure that all responsibilities /duties are met during absences or increased patient volumes.
  • Maintains harmonious and cooperative relations with fellow employees, medical staff, patients and guests
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding patient information in accordance to HIPAA regulations
  • Float to front desk for coverage when needed
  • Ability to float to other MACC practices when required
  • Perform other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English
