About The Position

The Surgical Associate Fulltime Days position at Texas Health Southwest is a full-time role focused on supporting surgical operations. The associate will be responsible for stocking supplies, assisting with patient transport and positioning, room cleanup, and other duties as assigned by the circulating nurse. This role emphasizes teamwork, patient care, and maintaining a safe and efficient operating room environment. Texas Health Southwest is a 261-bed, full-service hospital serving the southwest Fort Worth area, known for its comprehensive specialties and commitment to community health.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
  • Read, write and speak English
  • Able to stand/walk for majority of hours of their work shift
  • Easily move heavy equipment & supplies (up to 250 lbs on wheels) without endangering themselves or others.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Patient Care Experience Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Completes routine stocking chores, including restocking warmers, changing sharps containers, stocking linen and bags, stocking Expose II, ensuring availability of arm boards and safety straps, stocking and replacing suction liners, stocking sterile towels, stocking masks and OR room gels/sanitizers, and emptying soiled linen carts.
  • Assists in moving patients to and from operating room suites, following patient identification requirements, maintaining patient dignity and confidentiality, communicating appropriately with patients and families, observing safety procedures, helping with patient positioning, demonstrating basic understanding of asepsis, decontaminating beds and stretchers, and making up beds and stretchers.
  • Assists in room cleanup before and/or after surgery, including disposing of hazardous waste appropriately, using personal protective gear, following procedures for cleaning operating rooms and equipment, transporting instruments to decontamination areas, putting equipment and supplies away, and restocking items.
  • Follows directions of the circulating nurse in obtaining equipment, instruments, and supplies as requested.
  • Answers call from Surgery Control Desk without delay.
  • Acts as a team member.
