Surgical Assistant
About The Position
Sanford Health is seeking a Surgical Assistant to support operating surgeons and help provide safe procedures with optimal patient outcomes. The role assists with intraoperative technical procedures, including hemostasis, exposure, and closure, and develops specialized preoperative plans in coordination with surgeons and other health team members. The Surgical Assistant prepares surgical tools and equipment, takes measures to meet applicable health and safety regulations, and helps position patients when needed. The role also administers preoperative medications and reports patient responses to the assigned surgeons and anesthesiologists.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited Dental Assistant school.
- Be registered as a Dental Assistant in North Dakota when employment begins.
- Be willing to obtain national certification through the Dental Assisting National Board within one year of employment.
Responsibilities
- Assist operating surgeons with intraoperative procedures, including hemostasis, exposure, and closure.
- Develop specialized preoperative plans in coordination with appropriate surgeons and health team members.
- Prepare surgical tools and equipment.
- Take preventative measures to ensure applicable health and safety regulations are satisfied.
- Assist with patient positioning when necessary.
- Administer preoperative medications.
- Report patient responses to assigned surgeons and anesthesiologists.
