Requirements

High School Diploma required.
Minimum 1-2 years of experience in an Operating Room setting required.
Surgical Assistant Certification required.
Holds and maintains an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Prolonged periods of standing, reaching and bending.
Must be able to lift up to 10-20 pounds at times.
Good motor coordination required for rapid and accurate movements of the body and hand in response to visual and audio stimuli in the Operating Room.

Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

Assisting in the care and preparation of surgical patients.
Functioning as a member of the sterile team in donning gowns and gloves, creating and maintaining a sterile field, and issuing instruments to surgeons.
Setting up tables, instruments, and supplies for plastic surgery operations.
Assisting in preparation and draping of patient and operative areas.
Preparing and passing instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies needed in the operative procedure and maintaining a correct count of the same.
Assisting in maintenance and care of specimens for laboratory analysis.
Decontaminating all equipment, instruments, and supplies.
Cleaning and stocking storage room as required.
Assisting with table equipment, positioning patients, and application of plaster dressings.
Preparing and maintaining the sterile field for the surgical procedure.
Assisting in discharging patients from the Operating Room Suite.
Following established HIPPA policies and procedures at all times.
Assuming accountability and responsibility for attendance and timely completion of mandatory training programs, unit specific requirements (i.e. BLS, ACLS, Surgical Assistant Certification) and unit meetings.
