Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in an Operating Room setting required.
  • Surgical Assistant Certification required.
  • Holds and maintains an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, reaching and bending.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10-20 pounds at times.
  • Good motor coordination required for rapid and accurate movements of the body and hand in response to visual and audio stimuli in the Operating Room.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the care and preparation of surgical patients.
  • Functioning as a member of the sterile team in donning gowns and gloves, creating and maintaining a sterile field, and issuing instruments to surgeons.
  • Setting up tables, instruments, and supplies for plastic surgery operations.
  • Assisting in preparation and draping of patient and operative areas.
  • Preparing and passing instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies needed in the operative procedure and maintaining a correct count of the same.
  • Assisting in maintenance and care of specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Decontaminating all equipment, instruments, and supplies.
  • Cleaning and stocking storage room as required.
  • Assisting with table equipment, positioning patients, and application of plaster dressings.
  • Preparing and maintaining the sterile field for the surgical procedure.
  • Assisting in discharging patients from the Operating Room Suite.
  • Following established HIPPA policies and procedures at all times.
  • Assuming accountability and responsibility for attendance and timely completion of mandatory training programs, unit specific requirements (i.e. BLS, ACLS, Surgical Assistant Certification) and unit meetings.
