About The Position
The Transporter / Surgical Assistant safely moves and transports patients throughout the facility, including to and from surgery areas. The role supports patient comfort, safety, and confidentiality during transport and communicates with healthcare teams to facilitate patient care. It also provides basic operative assistance, including positioning patients and assisting with room turnover.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 0–2 years of experience in a surgical, sterile processing, or patient care support role.
- CPR (Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation) certification.
- BCLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
- Must be able to arrive within 30 minutes when on call.
Nice To Haves
- 1–2 years of experience supporting perioperative services or working in a surgical setting.
- CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) certification.
Responsibilities
- Transport patients safely between departments while maintaining their comfort and dignity.
- Assist patients in and out of wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds, using proper lifting techniques and equipment to help prevent injury.
- Communicate with nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare providers to coordinate and prioritize transport needs.
- Keep transport equipment clean and sanitized in accordance with infection control protocols.
- Assist with moving medical equipment, supplies, and documents to support the Surgery Department.
- Provide basic operative assistance, including patient positioning and room turnover.
