About The Position

The Surgical Assistant is responsible for safely moving and transporting patients throughout the facility, including to and from surgery areas. The role ensures patient comfort, safety, and confidentiality during transport and communicates with healthcare teams to facilitate patient care. It also provides basic operative assistance, including positioning patients and assisting with room turnover. This is a full-time position scheduled Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Weekday and weekend call is required, and the employee must be able to arrive within 30 minutes when on call.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
0–2 years of experience in a surgical, sterile processing, or patient care support role.
CPR (Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation) certification required.
BCLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
Must be able to arrive within 30 minutes when on call.

Nice To Haves

1–2 years of experience supporting perioperative services or working in a surgical setting.
CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) certification.

Responsibilities

Safely transport patients between departments while maintaining their comfort and dignity.
Assist patients in and out of wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds, using proper lifting techniques and equipment to prevent injury.
Communicate with nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare providers to coordinate and prioritize patient transport needs.
Keep transport equipment clean and sanitized in accordance with infection control protocols.
Move medical equipment, supplies, and documents as needed to support the Surgery Department.
Assist with basic operative tasks, including patient positioning and room turnover.
