About The Position

Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center is hiring a Certified Surgical Assistant in Williamsburg, VA! This is a full-time position with required call. A Sign-On Bonus of up to $15,000 is available for qualified candidates. The hospital's Main Operating Room is a magnet-recognized site with advanced imaging and smart operating rooms, holding a consecutive Leapfrog A safety rating. The Main Operating Room has 6 OR suites and will be adding a neurology service line to its existing General, GYN, Urology, and Orthopedics services. This team of 50 averages around 4,200 cases annually and offers robotic surgery. The hospital is expected to obtain Trauma center certification in 2026. The Certified Surgical Assistant anticipates the needs of the surgical team and assists the surgeon with tasks such as selecting equipment, setting up tables and positioning equipment, providing retraction for visualization, cauterizing bleeding vessels, suturing and closing incisions, instilling medications, and applying surgical dressings, splints, and casts. In addition to intraoperative duties, the surgical assistant also performs preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate optimal patient care and uses effective interdisciplinary communication. Requirements

  • TS – Trade School Graduate – Surgical Assistant or Graduate of CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited Surgical Assistant Program
  • Licensed Surgical Assistant – Virginia
  • Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) - Certifications - National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA) OR Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) - Certifications - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Certification - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • 1 year of Operating room experience strongly preferred

  • Participates in departmental improvement efforts to include quality improvement projects, conducting in-services, etc. preferred

Responsibilities

  • Anticipates the needs of the surgical team.
