Surgical Aide - Surgery General

About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager and the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse, the surgery attendant performs tasks that assist and facilitate efficient patient flow and safe patient care in the unit. The role supports nursing staff and functions as a member of the surgical team while providing assistance tailored to the physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and developmental needs of patients.

Requirements

BLS certification is required.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
One year of experience in a hospital setting preferred.

Responsibilities

Transport patients and equipment using appropriate standard precautions.
Clean and prepare beds, stretchers, and wheelchairs for patient transfer.
Interact warmly and receptively with staff, patients, families, and visitors.
Provide direction and information to patients and family members, and identify and obtain language translation when needed.
Assist with surgical patient positioning, transfers, and cast application and removal under the direction of the RN.
Retrieve and deliver items to other departments.
Respond promptly to assignments and requests.
Support nursing staff in maintaining high standards of nursing practice by facilitating prompt responses to patient needs.
Restock supplies; clean and defrost refrigerators; clean equipment; and maintain an orderly environment.
Ensure patient transfer and transport equipment is functioning properly.
Function as a member of the surgical team.
Demonstrate competence in assigned responsibilities in a manner that meets the population-specific and developmental needs of those served.
Adapt assigned assessment, treatment, and/or service methods to accommodate each member’s unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs.
