About The Position

The MD Scheduler works with providers, patients and operating room resources to schedule surgeries, procedures, pre-admission testing and post-operative appointments. Acts as a liaison between patients, clinical staff and providers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year related experience and or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with insurance company rules and regulations.
  • Medical Terminology strongly recommended
  • Computer skills.
  • Outstanding communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and be well organized.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule surgeries utilizing appropriate CPT codes and ICD-10 codes.
  • Coordinate with other surgeon schedules when necessary to have multiple surgical disciplines on the case.
  • Schedule Pre Admission Testing (PAT) and post operation appointments.
  • Communicate with patients regarding surgery, testing and appointment details via telephone, email or letter as appropriate.
  • Ensure consent forms are completed and sent to Ambulatory Surgery Unit ASU for each appropriate surgical area.
  • Communicate with Operating Room (OR) and Ambulatory Surgery Unit (ASU).
  • Communicate with providers regarding surgeries, labs, patient issues via Epic messages.
  • Schedule medical clearances for surgeries (medical/cardiac etc.) Type letters, fax clinical results, send Epic letters. Schedule additional testing as needed.
  • Open case requests for Operating Room.
  • Complete insurance authorizations. Contact insurances companies, set up peer to peers, prepare appeals, communicate clinical results, and obtain authorizations prior to surgery.
  • Manage provider block schedule. Release days for Operating Room schedule or find additional time in ORs to add to provider schedule.
  • Contact representatives for necessary needs for Operating Room cases.
  • Arrange biopsies or pre-surgery testing.
  • Ensure all pre-surgery authorizations for imaging testing and referrals are complete.
  • Provide back-up coverage for front desk duties (patient registration, phone coverage, routing messages to providers/nurses, etc.).
  • Communicate with other surgical departments such as Interventional Radiology regarding needs of patients.
  • Serve as backup for imaging authorizations and external referrals.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
