About The Position

The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for maintaining professional relationships with physicians, their office staff, co-workers, and other hospital personnel. This role involves scheduling surgical procedures by coordinating with anesthesiologists, physicians, their offices, or nursing units within the hospital, adhering to the limitations of hospital, anesthesia, and surgery capacity. The position also requires facilitating briefs, huddles, and debriefs, and actively scanning situational elements to gather information and maintain team awareness. Key duties include identifying and obtaining necessary patient information for scheduling, entering and reviewing operating room charges in the electronic system, monitoring and submitting changes to physician preference cards, identifying and communicating the need for additional procedure resources, and precepting additional staff in the operations of the scheduling office. Verification of communicated information and seeking information from all available resources are also essential. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum: Two (2) years of clinical surgical tech experience
  • BLS (American Heart Association)

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred: Certified Surgical Technologist
  • Preferred: combination of administrative and clinical experience

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a professional relationship with physicians, their office staff, co-workers and other hospital personnel.
  • Schedule surgical procedures with the anesthesiologist, physician, their office or through the nursing units within the hospital according to the limitation of the hospital and/or anesthesia and surgery capacity.
  • Facilitate briefs, huddles and debriefs when necessary.
  • Actively scan and assess situational elements to gain information, understanding, or maintain awareness to support functioning of the team.
  • Identify and obtain necessary information about the patient for scheduling purposes.
  • Enter and review operating room charges into electronic system.
  • Monitor physician preference cards for noted changes and submit to the designated coordinator.
  • Identify additional resources needed for procedures and communicate this information to the necessary team members as soon as possible.
  • Precept additional staff members in the operations of the scheduling office when necessary.
  • Verifies information that is communicated and seek information from all available resources.
  • Other duties as assigned.
