About The Position

The General Surgery Surgery Scheduler provides essential support to the General Surgery Clinic by coordinating surgical cases, managing department communications, and preparing patient charges. Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited surgical technologist, practical nursing, and/or medical assistant program is required.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in an appointment scheduling position, preferably in a medical setting, is required.
  • Valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)/Certified First Assistant (CFA), and/or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) license/certificate in good standing is required.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Must be flexible, organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Requires close mental and visual attention for sustained periods to complete various activities.
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 10 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately schedules procedures, ensuring correct date, time, surgeon, procedure, anesthesia, and pre-operative interviews.
  • Provides scheduling instructions to physicians' office personnel.
  • Schedules an appropriate number of surgical cases per day and correctly assigns procedures to designated operating rooms.
  • Meets commitments, works independently, accepts accountability, adapts to change, maintains focus under pressure, and adheres to attendance and punctuality standards.
  • Screens and prioritizes incoming calls, directing them to the most appropriate party.
  • Continuously seeks improvements, demonstrates attention to detail and accuracy, and is committed to excellence.
  • Obtains pre-authorization/pre-certification, eligibility, and benefits for each scheduled procedure, communicating this information to the Phelps Health Medical Group Business office and relevant hospital departments.
  • Accurately enters appropriate orders into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system as instructed by providers.
  • Provides support in the clinic setting and rooms patients to complete the intake process.
  • Educates patients regarding pre-operative procedures, including but not limited to pre-surgical clearance, lab work, and imaging.
