About The Position

The Surgery Scheduler is primarily responsible for coordinating surgical procedures according to established guidelines. This role involves scheduling surgical procedures, confirming clinical and insurance coding information, and maintaining open communication with hospital departments and physician offices regarding schedule changes. The scheduler will also handle incoming telephone calls, document patient cancellations, and perform post-operative data entry.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Previous scheduling experience in a health care environment
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with medical diagnostic procedures, health care billing and authorization is required
  • Knowledge of HIPAA/Confidentiality
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, and diplomacy and can serve a wide range of employees and patients.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of people at all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule surgical procedures and confirm appropriate clinical and insurance coding information is collected for the surgery schedule.
  • Receive requests to schedule procedures and schedule the procedure according to established guidelines.
  • Provide accurate information so that all departments are informed and maintain open communication with hospital departments and physician offices regarding schedule changes.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls on a multi-line telephone system in a professional manner.
  • Transfer calls to the appropriate person and write messages in accordance with approved telephone procedures.
  • Complete post-op data entry in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Document and notify Doctor when a patient cancels a surgery.
  • Type correspondence and office memos as directed.
  • Regular attendance in the office is required for this position.
