About The Position

This position schedules all procedures for the Executive Urology Program, including surgeries at other hospitals where Physicians have privileges. It involves obtaining all necessary pre-authorization and testing for surgeries. Additionally, the role encompasses all patient care duties required of a medical assistant, with the ability to scribe.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to four years of high school with working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and record information accurately.
  • Minimum of one year of scheduling experience and experience with PC inputting/typing.
  • Certified Medical Assistant or LPN
  • Maintains knowledge of all operative software and maintenance routines.
  • Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job related hazards.
  • Follows the Hospital Exposure Control Plans/Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
  • Participates in the monitoring of operative information system quality control and its evaluation.
  • Accurately identifies real/potential problems affecting the service and implements solutions with follow through and communication.
  • Operates computer terminal.
  • Is able to know, understand, and follow directions as given by the Physician/Provider.
  • Individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his/her assigned department.
  • The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area's policies and procedures.

  • Attends monthly staff meetings and participates in monthly rounding process with manager to assure effective and timely two-way communications.
  • Participates in and completes required department specific education and training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to department safety and specific job-related hazards.
  • Follows safety and security policies including exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules all elective surgical procedures.
  • Responsible for effective and efficient OR scheduling and utilization.
  • Prepares and distributes surgery schedule.
  • Schedules all appointments that require prior authorization.
  • Maintains prior authorization lists ensuring it is obtained prior to patients arrival.
  • Assist Physician/Provider with patient care as required.
  • Maintain patient records, and prepare necessary forms for billing, prior authorization of meds if indicated.
  • Answer telephone calls and places calls as directed.
  • Documents all messages.
  • Stocking supplies and completing form for needed equipment and supplies.
  • Conducts vital signs, EKG's and pain assessment. Reviews H&P and MAR.
  • Schedules patient visits and assists with charts.
